Carlos Santana on stage at an award show

Carlos Augusto Alves Santana was born on July 20, 1947. From a young age it was clear that Carlos Santana had a musical gift. Most famous for his pioneering work in fusing Latin, Jazz, and Classic guitar rock, Carlos Santana has been one of this generations most prolific artists.

Carlos Santana started his professional career in the mid 1960's but his first big break came in 1969 with a famous Woodstock performance that got the attention of musical producing legend Clive Davis. Carlos Santana was signed to Columbia Records and immediately began releasing records. By the early 1970's Carlos Santana had released 4 studio albums and was wildly popular.

The rest of the 1970's and 1980's continued to be successful for Carlos and several Carlos Santana songs hit the top of the charts and then the1990's saw a slowing of Carlos Santana's career. However, much like he pioneered the fusion music that made him so popular the first time, Carlos Santana pioneered a incredible come back at the turn of the millennium. Partnering with hit artists of the time, spanning several genres, Carlos Santana released a CD that featured his music and vocals from several other artists. The pairings were a success and Carlos Santana found a new niche of music.

Today, at any given Carlos Santana Concert, concert goers can find a mix of middle-aged fans who remember the fusion that made him famous and Gen X'ers who like the new Carlos Santana songs.
