The Shubert Theatre Corporation built Fitzgerald Theatre, and originally named the building Sam S. Shubert Theater. The Fitzgerald Theatre then became a movie outlet known as the World Theater in 1933. In 1980, Minnesota Public Radio bought the building and in 1986, restored the building with a stage to be used for the Prairie Home Companion. In 1994, the building was renamed the Fitzgerald Theater after F. Scott Fitzgerald, a St. Paul native. The Fitzgerald Theater is located at 488-494 Wabasha Street North and 10 East Exchange Street in St. Paul. In 2005, a movie version of Prairie Home Companion was made and the Fitzgerald Theatre was used in the film, however, the real equipment was not used. The Fitzgerald Theatre was used, in 2002, for a debate between United States Senate Candidates Norm Coleman and Walter Mondale on November 4th, the day before the election.
